Wednesday saw the unveiling of MultiChoice’a next generation DStv Explora decoder. The new decoder will be made available from 15 August 2013 at a price of R2,499. It boasts two terabytes of hard drive space – that’s about 220 hours of recording time. Dubbed the “pebble”, its curved design will house an improved interface which in time will support broadband internet connectivity.
Manufacturing of the current PVR decoder will be discontinued as the Explora went into production earlier this month. The decoder is manufactured by Pace and Vektronix in East London. The current decoder will be still be available for purchase, but obviously only until stocks last.
Collins Khumalo, CEO of MultiChoice South Africa said:
We want to provide our customers with a rich, high definition video-on-demand experience, similar to what they would get in markets where broadband is a lot more accessible.
More features will be enabled over the coming months such as delivering content through broadband, setting of remote recordings and one-click BoxOffice rentals.
We believe the DStv Explora will give our customers greater control of their viewing experience with access to their favourite programmes when it suits them.
