Many may think that replicating a car is stealing, but if its 3D printed the team at Aston Martin might be okay with it. Ivan Sentch is replicating an Aston Martin with a design based on a Nissan Skyline. Sentch has undertaken the painstaking task of 3D printing the replica which has plenty of detail on the body.
The New Zealand Aston enthusiast chose the 1961 Aston Martin DB4 model to replicate. To date their are only 1,200 of these beauties still around, and that makes them a collector’s item with a hefty price tag.
Using Autodesk 3ds Max modeling software and a Solidoodle desktop 3-D printer, Sentch began the process of printing out individual 4-by-4-inch sections, mounting them on the wooden frame and then gluing each piece into place. So far, he’s produced over 2,500 fiberglass molds and says he’s 72 percent of the way to completion, but that’s only the printing aspect.
