On Saturday in Rio, Copacabana beach wasn’t full of the usual bikini babes and six packs. Instead, the news of Pope Francis visiting Brazil resulted in swarms of pilgrims sleeping overnight in order to be part of the Mass by the pope later on Sunday.
The four kilometer beach, as well as the promenades and streets adjacent to it, was packed with an estimated three million people. Giant screens were set up so everyone could have a view of the Pontiff while he told them to take what they had learned in Rio and reinvigorate the Catholic Church around the world.
Pope Francis said:
The Church needs you. Your enthusiasm, your creativity, and the happiness that characterises you. Just three words: go without fear!
