How would you like a life size hologram displayed in your home? It could happen. Provision 3D Media has developed the technology ‘HoloVision’ that can display images between three and 52 inches. As the technology is capable of being increased in scale, the company has launched a Kickstarter campaign in an attempt to raise $950,000 to develop a life size hologram. According to Curt Thornton, CEO of Provision 3D Media, the money would go to tools, testing the technology and a “trial-an-error process”.
Provision 3D Media is attempting to “reinvent the light source that produces the image” which would make the HoloVision technology different to other holograms.
This project, according to Thornton, is:
The beginning of the manifestation of bringing Hollywood science-fiction to life.
The possibilities for the life size holograms are endless in Thornton’s opinion. Thornton feels they could be used as “virtual greeters” in large stores or even for gamers. Thornton said:
There’s a very larger community of gamers out there – whether it’s an Xbox, Playstation, Wii or even PC gamers – that love to have virtual environments and are immersed in that environment.
If you pledge $299 or $349 to Kickstarter you will receive a static analog, three-inch HoloVision shown in the video below. If you decide to pledge a larger amount of $7,500 you will receive the digital Holovision 17-inch version.
