The FORD-class carriers are being built in America and this signals the next generation of aircraft carriers. The USS Gerald R. Ford has a total cost of $14 billion. The 25 storey high carrier is over 350 metres long and 76 metres wide.
The last piece of primary structure onto the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) was lifted into place on Tuesday, May 7, 2013. The lift was the last of 162 superlifts and brings more than three years of structural erection work to a close.
When this carrier has been completed, it is set to be the most lethal and largest ship able to handle 220 landing and takeoffs daily.
