Audio has been obtained where an alleged Kanye West can be heard explaining his reasoning behind grabbing the mic away from Taylor Swift when she was saying her acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA).

Reports suggest that the audio was taped in secret when West was having dinner with friends at the Corner Bistro in New York City after the VMA’s.

It is unclear if the voice is really West’s but most believe it to be. The full transcript of the audio has been provided by Rich Juzwiak.

I’d rather just let the [inaudible] speak for itself. You know, it’s like, I was happy to be in a situation where people couldn’t say, oh, I was trying to promote my own song.
