The Barbie you know and loved has had a slight make-over.
Yes it does actually exist, the Goth Barbie is alive, kicking (figuratively speaking) and being sold more than any other doll in the world.
These light skinned, tattooed and hair-dyed Barbies are from the collection called Monster High, designed by one of the world’s biggest toy companies, Mattel. The company never thought Monster High was going to be as big as it is today – but with the addition of books and and web episodes, the fad exceeds the popularity Bratz use to have.
At New York’s Toy Fair, the place where they showcase the world’s top toys, there were reportedly Monster High “wannabes” everywhere as well as the additional zombie Snow White and Little Mermaid.
Cathy Cline, in charge of Mattel marketing said:
The message about the brand is really to celebrate your own freaky flaws, especially as bullying has become such a hot topic.
According to Cline the brand is the fastest growing in toy history, but with fishnets and fangs next to the quaint Barbie, in the days of Tim Burton, what do you expect?
