Duplicate songs always manage to find their way to your iTunes library. And just when you are expecting a new and exciting song on your playlist, you get a repeat. Writer Amy-Mae Elliot has taken the time to show us how to delete those annoying doubles in a quick and easy way.
Step 1:
Check that your version of iTunes is up-to-date. You can do this by clicking on the “Help” menu and select “check for Updates” from the drop down menu.
The most recent version of iTunes is 11.0.04.
Step 2:
Go to your iTunes library and go to the “Music” subcategory. Click on the “View” menu and select “Show Duplicate Items” from the drop down menu.
Step 3:
If you hold down the Alt key then click on the “View” menu, you will be given the option to “Show Exact Duplicate Items”. This option allows you to view the “exact” duplicates making it easier to remove the genuine duplicates, and not perhaps different versions of the song – live or studio.
Step 4:
Once you have completed the above steps all the duplicate songs will appear in a list. The duplicates can be deleted one-by-one, simply tap “Delete”.
Another option would be to press and hold down the “Command” key and select the titles you want to remove thereby allowing you to delete more than one song at a time.
Step 5:
The songs you have selected to be deleted will removed. These duplicate songs will also be removed from any other device that syncs with your iTunes.
