The Graph Search feature on Facebook was made available to the masses on 8 July 2013. The feature is a search tool that enables the user to search for information on the popular social networking site.
Zuckerberg said:
Every piece of content has its own audience, most content is not public, and you can only search for content that has been shared with you.
But one can never be too careful when it comes to what information you do and do not share. To ensure certain information does not show up in searches, you might want to check your privacy settings.
Firstly, edit the information that you make available in your profile. This can be done by clicking on “About” in your timeline. Once inside, next to each section there is an edit button. Click the edit button and decide who can view this information.
Once you have finished editing the “About” section, you can edit the things you like on your profile. Simply click on the pencil that is next to each section and select the “Edit Sections” option.
Next up would be to adjust your Activity Log. Putting you in control of what is displayed on your timeline. Go to the Privacy and Settings page and select activity log. Ensure that you have selected “Use Activity Log”. The next part may be a long process. When you are inside the activity log, find a post and click on the two-headed icon (right side of the screen). Once you have clicked on that icon, the privacy settings will be displayed in the drop down menu. Go through everything on your timeline and adjust the privacy setting.
Should you wish to untag yourself from a post or photo you can do this in the activity log. Find the post that you have been tagged in, click on the two-headed icon (right side of the screen) and a drop menu will appear. Select “Report/Remove Tag”.
Finally, you will need to limit the visibility of past posts. Go to the “Privacy Settings and Tools” page. Beneath the “Who can see my stuff option” a “Who can see my future posts” will appear. There will be a drop down menu, click on that and choose the “Friends” option.
Above all it’s always important to audit your Facebook page and see what other users see when they look at your page.
