Asiana Airlines flight 214 crash landed on the tarmac of the San Francisco International Airport on Saturday 6 July 2013. Since the crash, the media have been trying to obtain the names of the pilots who flew the plane. KTVU news Channel 2 broadcast the pilots names in the video above. The TV station confirmed they had received the information from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
After the station had realised the names were offensive, they apologised. The NTSB also apologised for the “inaccurate and offensive names that were mistakenly confirmed”. And blamed the error on an intern.
Now Asiana is planning to sue the NTSB and the station that broadcast the pilots names. Asiana said:
[The incident] seriously tarnished the dignity of the four pilots as well as the company.
We are planning legal actions against KTVU that aired the report as well as the NTSB that confirmed the names.
