If you are trying to get the inside dish on President Robert Mugabe’s ruling party then listen out for this name, Baba Jukwa. Followers of this popular blogger will go to all lengths and heights it seems just to get the latest news.
In Zimbabwe’s local Shona language, Baba Jukwa or Jukwa’s father translates to a “Zanu-PF party insider,” also referred to as a mole. Baba Jukwa’s Facebook page shows his disdain for the “corrupt and evil machinations” of Mugabe’s political party. The Baba Jukwa page has 200,000 followers and it was only launched in March 2013.
According to News24:
The shadowy blog points to what it claims are exposés by well-connected insiders of Mugabe’s health secrets, murder, assassination and corruption plots, and intended intimidation and vote-rigging ahead of upcoming elections scheduled for the end of July.
Zimbabwe has a security law where “it is an offence to undermine the authority of the president and national security operatives,” but with Baba Jukwa’s page Zimbabweans have access to information without having the fear of being arrested.
The site has reported receiving information from confidential sources during meetings with Mugabe. Now Zanu-PF insiders are scared to excuse themselves to go to the bathroom during important meetings, as they fear they will be accused of sending text messages to Baba Jukwa.
Rugare Gumbo, a Zanu-PF spokesperson said:
Whoever he is, he fabricates lies and is not doing any good to the morality of our society.
Gumbo claims Baba Jukwa’s facts are incorrect, but some have proven to be correct as events have unfolded. A recent Facebook post from Baba Jukwa said:
They are wasting their time as I am extremely careful and working from within the country and will never go anywhere as long as these evil old people exist I will continue fighting. My blood will water freedom and democracy for Zimbabweans if I die for this cause.
