A survey conducted by Travel + Leisure has determined that Cape Town is the fourth best city in the world. And just ahead of Cape Town are Bangkok, Istanbul and Florence.

The popular travel website conducted the survey from 1 December 2012 up until 1 April 2013. And there was no funny business. If a respondent was a professional in the travel industry, their response would be removed from the final total. Other categories in the survey included hotels, sights, restaurants and shopping value.

In the top 100 hotels list, six South African hotels made the cut. Singita in the Kruger National Park moved up a few positions to number three. Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve came in ninth position, Singita Sabi Sand Kruger National Park came in 1oth, Cape Grace was awarded the 26th spot, Londolozi Game Reserve Kruger National Park came in at number 39 and finally Saxon Boutique Hotel in Johannesburg made it to the 50th position.

The top 10 cities are:

3. Florence, Italy

4. Cape Town, South Africa

5. Kyoto, Japan

6. Rome, Italy

7. Charleston, South Carolina

8. Barcelona, Spain

9. Paris, France

10. Chaing Mai, Thailand
