In the year 2000 Oprah Winfrey interviewed former South African president Nelson Mandela on her talk show, The Oprah Winfrey Show. Winfrey recalls that day when Mandela walked through Harpo Studios and touched everyone who was present. Winfrey said:
I think in the world of heros, living heroes, he is number one for me. His ability to withstand years of apartheid and 27 years in prison and to come out of it with grace and forgiveness. It is the greatest lesson of our time.
