Rumours have been circulating of Apple releasing a more cost-effective iPhone that will sport a brightly-coloured plastic casing. Are these rumours true? Recently released photographs of the handset of the cheaper iPhone have emerged which show a plastic back casing in a bright colour.
The leak was reported by a Chinese blogger, 7mob who supposedly has connections with “factory sources”. The colour of the case in the photograph is similar to a colour used in the latest multi-coloured iPad Nano range. Why the plastic cover? A plastic casing will have reduced manufacturing costs, which will be passed on to the consumer.
The cheaper iPhone is rumoured to be targeted towards emerging markets thus allowing those who previously could not afford the device to purchase the product for the first time.
Nothing at this point, is however concrete.
