The news of an Islamic cutural centre opening near Ground Zero seems to have rubbed some people up the wrong way. While some may voice their opinions, others seem to be more proactive regarding the situation, like Idaho gun lovers developing a line of bullets that will be laced with pork.
The bullets named Jihawg Ammo are a “defensive deterrent to those who violently act in the name of Islam”.
According to South Fork Industries, when a Muslim is shot with the bullet, it will prohibit them from entering paradise as the pork-coated bullet is “haram” or unclean.
This is posted on the company’s website, Jihawg Ammo.
A press release from the company said:
With Jihawg Ammo, you don’t just kill an Islamist terrorist, you also send him to hell. That should give would-be martyrs something to think about before they launch an attack. If it ever becomes necessary to defend yourself and those around you our ammo works on two levels.
The nullifying principle of our product is only effective if you are attacked by an Islamist in Jihad.
Otherwise, our ammo functions just like any other ammunition, so we obviously insist upon defensive use of our ammo only-not offensive.
But the company’s idea that being shot with a pork laced bullet – making someone “haram” and thereby denying their entry into paradise – is inaccurate according to assistant professor of religious studies at Gonzaga University. Shannon Dunn said:
There is no penalty for coming into contact with pork given by the Quran.
To my knowledge, Muslims, especially unknowingly, would not be banned from heaven for eating or getting hit by pork.
There are some interpreters who suggest that Muslims should eat pork rather than starve, if faced with that alternative.
Regardless of the accuracy of the company’s understanding of the religion, the bullets have supporters. Some 4,300 people on Facebook.
