Violent protests flared up in Indonesia and Brazil yesterday for remarkably similar reasons.
Hundreds of thousands of people in Brazil are protesting over an increase in bus fares. Naturally, discontent over inequality, and the quantity of money being spent on next year’s Soccer World Cup fueled the action.
Indonesia, meanwhile, is boiling over in the face of their first major fuel price hike in five years – the overall concern being price inflation, and the affect on the common man.
Here’s a Vine video that illustrates the scale of the protests in Rio alone last night. Sao Paulo also saw mobilized protest action.
And here’s a video of the police firing batteries of flares at protestors in Indonesia.
And Turkey is still simmering. You can get a handle on that vibe, here.
