Luleå in Sweden is the site for Facebook’s newest data centre. This data centre is situated on the edge of the Arctic Circle and is aimed at processing data coming from Europe, the Middle East and Africa. This is the first time Facebook has opted for a data centre outside of America.
The server hub is largest of its kind in Europe, and most northerly of its magnitude anywhere on Earth.
Facebook’s carbon footprint seems to be decreasing with the new data centre too as it’s powered by hydro-electricity and the servers are cooled down with icy Nordic air.
