The mysteries of Noah’s Ark have baffled many people for years. How did he manage to fit all of those animals on the Ark? The proposed theme park, “Ark Encounter” is attempting to provide answers to these questions. This is a project of Answers in Genesis, a ministry founded by Ken Ham. The ministry has also built the Creation Museum which has come under a lot of scrutiny by scientists and educators.
Patrick Marsh, the design director for the theme park:
We’re basically presenting what the Bible has to say and showing how plausible it was. This was a real piece of history – not just a story, not just a legend.
The theme park will house the popular wooden ark as well as other attractions from the Old Testament such as the Tower of Bable and a “10 Plagues” ride. Although the “Ark Encounter” is still in its design phase, members of the project are pushing forward until enough funds have been raised. An estimated $150 million (R1,4 billion) is needed to build the theme park.
There are some kinks that are still being worked out for the creation of the Ark. The major kink is the amount of animals that Noah supposedly carried on the Ark, some 1,3 million species according to scientists. But Ark Encounter supporters claim that at least 1,000 to 2,000 pairs could have been on board and represented every animal kind. Marsh:
If you start with a wolf, you can basically generate all of these dog-like kinds.
Marsh goes further by saying that larger animals could have been eggs or juveniles when they were brought on board as a space saver.
It remains to be seen if the park can truly teach the story of Noah when the Bible provides very little detail.
