Last week, Oklahoma was ravaged by a second outbreak of tornados in as many weeks. What with it being storm season in that part of the world, storm chasers are dotted around the area hoping to nab footage of monster twisters. Here’s a video of one storm chasing team who got way, way too close.
The footage was captured last week by meteorology students Brandon Sullivan and Brett Wright near Union City, Oklahoma. The description of the video goes like this:
Brett and Brandon got extremely close to a violent tornadic circulation that produced multiple tornadoes in very close range… The team was hit by inflow jet winds into the tornado and their vehicle received damage as a barn was completely destroyed. A hay bale came barreling across the road and was tossed into their car.. The team is very fortunate to live to chase another day… Incredible storm chaser traffic prevented an escape from the tornado like normal..
It should be noted that these guys were chasing that tornado in an ordinary vehicle, and that the same tornado flipped at least nine heavy trucks on a nearby highway 30 minutes earlier.
Here’s footage recorded by the car that was travelling behind these two nimrods.
And here’s what it looks like when your car gets thrown 200 metres in to a field, recorded in a separate incident.
Happy Monday, everyone!
