We have the honour, nay, the privilege, of introducing you to the North Korean Moranbong Music Band.
This “girl group” has a bit of a stigma attached to them. The five North Korean women have been hand-picked by Kim Jong Un, himself.
The communist leader formed the group choosing only fit, attractive musicians. The dazzling girls were brought together to bring the public of North Korea together as one “secretive nation.”
Moranbong Music Band perform hits like “Let’s Study!” and “Our Dear Leader!” in short and shiny sequenced dresses.
DPRK media:
All of the musicians and singers of the band are promising, [Kim] noted, praising Seon-u Hyang-hui, leader of the band, for her splendid directing. He underscored the need to steadily develop the traditional music and popular music in a balanced manner to suit the thoughts and feelings of Koreans and their aesthetic taste while meeting the need of the times and the people’s desire.
Although we may just think of these girls as a communist Spice Girls – they have actually given the women of DPRK a sense of modernisation and purpose other than stereotypical motherhood duties, according to the Sino-NK blog.
