Introducing the “House of the Future” – an amazing piece of architecture that was designed in 1954 by Thomas Stimson. The Popular Mechanics magazine editor gave his thoughts and inspirations a voice in a cover story in 1955.
Stimson wrote:
It was designed for comfort and easy maintenance … and contains striking innovations for efficient living,
The house that is on sale for the second time in its history has barley been changed since its design and therefore the words of Stimson still apply today. Located in Brentwood LA, the house with, 4 bedrooms and 2,75 bathrooms, that rests on a 220 meter squared landing, could be yours for around R 17 64 7 920,00.
Although we have outgrown the intercom in every room and an average home has a garage that opens when it senses your car from a few meters away, not everything has lost its purpose.
Real estate agent Deborah Glusker:
When people talk to me about changing things like the windows, as a purist, I think no, you can’t! It’s original and should be preserved as is.
The present owners bought it from the architect and redid the kitchens and bathrooms, but didn’t touch anything else,They modernised everything without changing anything.
The abode still hosts the open floor plan, large windows and amazing heating and cooling system design. The only addition is the fact that you can turn on or off any light inside or outside the house with a remote from your bedroom.
Well done Stimson!
