“Hands on”. You see what we did there with the headline?
Dove has been in the news a bit lately after their “real beauty” campaign became most viewed online ad in history, with over a hundred million views. Winter’s around the corner, so we’ll be running a few features on products to help you get through the colder months. Because of their recent news relevance, we thought we’d start with Dove. Obviously, we’ll be talking about dry winter skin, AKA “ice leather”, and moisturisation.
One of the more interesting products we got our hands on was the Dove Intensive Nourishment Body Lotion for Extra Dry Skin. Just a note, I have been an avid Dove supporter for quite a number of years, primarily their 1/4 moisturizer soap. Yep, the one with the TV ads from our childhood.
Obviously the danger here was that the body lotion would be thick and oily because it’s for dry skin. Thankfully, it wasn’t. First hurdle jumped. But the thin texture along with the pretty fast absorption made me question if this really was for “dry skin.” Normally products specifically designed for dry skin require you put some elbow grease into it. Look, it’s not like it evaporated – I mean, you’ll still be trapped inside a closed room if it has a circular door knob. Still, I guess I was unnerved by how much drier my skin was than I anticipated.
Another key factor is the scent. There is literally nothing worse than using a body lotion that smells like potpourri that lingers the entire day. This particular body lotion has a floral fragrance, but nothing too overpowering – enough to make the application process pleasant without wrestling my perfume to the ground and choking it to death.
Short, sharp conclusion: I’d happily use this as a daily moisturiser, even with my average-to-normal skin type.
