Hilarious.
The average person uses Google Street view to see where they are going or merely to play around, finding your house on the interwebs and so forth. But Fiat used this amazing form of technology to their advantage – by getting one up on their competitor, Volkswagen.
Almost a year ago, a Fiat worker sneakily drove what was their latest car model, in front of the Volkswagen Head Office in Sweden – just in time for the Google Street Car (who takes all the photo’s for Google Street View) to drive past and take a photo of the car… in front of the building.
It was reported that the Fiat followed the Google Street Car for 45 minutes to the offices in Sodertalje, just so the cheeky red Fiat 500 could ruin the Street View image of the Head Quarters until the next round of photo’s years later. And my was this successful. The red Fiat still looks like it’s sitting outside and under the Volkswagen banner.
If you search, “Volkswagen Group Sverige AB, Sodertalje, Sweden” in Google Maps, you will still see these amazing images.
Nothing like a little competitive rivalry.
