27-year-old Serbian tennis player, Viktor Troicki, had a tricky day at the Italian Open on Wednesday. During his game against Ernests Gulbis, he was down 6-1 after the first set and on his break point of the first game of the second set. Troicki hit a cross court back-hand, that chair umpire Cedric Mourier did not allow, losing the Serbian the game. And this is when things got heated.
Mourier went as far as getting off his acclaimed pedestal and checking the bass line where the ball had “gone out” to confirm his call. While this was happening Troicki had already leapt over the net, to have a look himself, and that’s when the tantrum began.
The argument went like this:
No, come on, Cedric, you know you’re wrong. Come on, you know you’re wrong. Come on, please. You know that you’re wrong. You called it and now you don’t want to overrule yourself. Come on, there is no space. You know there is no space. Come on, no, I don’t want to play like this. There is no space. There is zero space. … You don’t want to correct yourself … because you always think you’re right, but you’re not.
Troicki went as far as grabbing the camera man to take a close-up shot of the line so viewers could see how he had been “wronged.” Anyway, he lost 6-1, 6-1, and his efforts didn’t really matter.
Better luck next time, Troicki.
