The story of the Democratic Alliance, a 12 minute and 29 second video, has the ANC in a tizz. The “Know Your DA” campaign was launched over a month ago. 800,000 pamphlets have been distributed, and the party says they’ve conversed with nearly 300,000 South Africans in thier homes about the struggle and story of the DA. Many have learned of the DA’s role in the fight against apartheid.

The “Know Your DA” film campaign was launched on 13 May 2013, and will see 30,000 copies of the video being distributed across the country. It will also be available in nine languages. Monthly house meetings will be held where the film will be aired and the DA’s story told.

Helen Zille said in a press release:

For too long we have allowed our political opponents to define us. To counter this deception we must reclaim our history. We must ensure that we never lose sight of the golden thread that connects our past, present and future: the fight against apartheid and its legacy of poverty, unemployment and inequality.

The campaign has spawned the creation of notable spoofs, including a series of tweets by the “A DA Voter” parody account.
