If you are a bartender, you have probably suffered from not being able to find the ice scooper, running out of garnish or worst of all, the drunk customer.
What do you get when you combine the works of MIT Sensible Lab, Pentagram and SuperUber? A robotic bar that can serve cocktails, named Makr Shakr. Makr Shakr (the thing that makes you a little bit nervous about who will be serving us drinks in the future) this week, will be serving drinks and cocktails to people at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco.
The contraption consists of three arms that can do pretty much everything your average bartender can – from measuring shots to slicing lemons. But, the Makr Shakr doesn’t need you to wait in crazy queues to be served.
How?
The robot arms are linked to an app. The thirsty user can order their drinks or even design their own cocktail for the machine to make for them.
Carlo Ratti elaborates:
Makr Shakr is a great example of how digital technologies are changing the interaction between people and products. The system explores the new dynamics of social creation and consumption – ‘design, make and enjoy’ – allowing users to design their own cocktail creations, while digitally controlled machines transform these designs into reality
Brought to you buy Cafe Caprice, where actual people serve you your drinks.
