Friday saw the arrest of 31-year-old Andrew Terence Moran, about four years after he escaped from an armed robbery trial in the UK. Moron (see what I did there?), was given the fright of his life when Spanish police snuck up on him while he was in mid-tan, at a luxury villa in Calpe.
We thank the exceptional person who decided to video this takedown for our enjoyment. In the footage you can see how sly the police were in surrounding the swimming pool, ready to rush Moran at the precise moment, giving him no chance to escape.
Moran and accomplice Stephen Devalda were accused of stealing about R350,000 from a mail van in Colne, England in 2005 using – wait for it – a machete, baseball bat and a handgun.
In 2009, Moran assaulted security guards in his escape and was convicted in absentia of “conspiracy to commit armed robbery.”
Matt Burton, SOCA’s head of investigations said:
Moran thought he could evade capture fleeing to Spain, frequently changing his appearance and using false identities.
The house Moran had been living in during his “vacay” from prison was found with a handgun, ammunition, and 5kg’s of Mary Jane.
He will be showing of his tan in court on Monday in Madrid.
