When the launch date was announced, we were excited to see what the Google Glass was going to be like – now we’re not sure.
We’re not so sure, because it’s becoming increasingly apparent that, while technologically incredible, Google Glass might not actually fit in with our social patterns as humans. Wired journalist, Marcus Wohlsen has brought up a fact that we’ve been trying to ignore: “they’re all too dorky to live.”
Google Glass, like the Segway, is what happens when Silicon Valley spends too much time talking to itself. Maybe that’s even overstating the case: The rhetoric around Google Glass is what happens when important tech people spend a little too much time congratulating each other
The video above shows how the gadget works, and that looks fantastic. But imagine actually wearing that in public. Go on, imagine it.
Here, you might need some help.
This Tumblr, White Men Wearing Google Glass is probably the strongest argument for the “you’ll look like a dweeb” camp.
But surely technology and convenience trump cool factor?
Wohlsen:
There’s no getting around it, walking around with a camera mounted on the side of your face at all times makes you look dorky.
