Some South African heritage is taking over New York.
When you walk through Times Square, you expect to be engulfed by electronic screens and billboards advertising the latest shows on Broadway, or the new Prada range. But every night between 23h57 and midnight, passers have enjoyed a film titled, “Power of Words”, comprised entirely from the words of Nelson Mandela.
Presented by Montblanc and commissioned by co- founder Robert De Niro’s Tribeca Film Institute, the film honours Mandela’s upcoming 95th birthday, and runs until May.
Mandela’s grandson Ndaba Mandela, said:
We’re in the crossroads of the world, it’s all about the glitz and the glamour, and all of a sudden you’re seeing this man to remind us of our humanity
The installation is apparently part of a series that already featured singer Björk and artist Tracey Emin-but neither have gleaned this much attention and praise.
