Nike Has Been Selling Boston Massacre T-Shirts [PHOTO]

Yes, they have done it again. Sports retailer Nike seems to be able to predict the future. They ran an Oscar Pistorius’ “I Am The Bullet In The Chamber” web ad prior to the fatal shooting of Reeva Steenkamp, and now it turns out that they’re selling “Boston Massacre” printed t-shirts, which obviously some found to be offensive in light of recent events.

The Nike t-shirt sports the words “Boston Massacre” across the chest with what seems to be blood spatters across the letters. The now infamous t-shirt was spotted at a Nike store over the weekend by executive producer and writer for the “Late Show with David Letterman,” Eric Stangel who tweeted a picture to his 124 000 plus followers.

ABC news reported that the t-shirts were designed for New York Yankees fans to commemorate the 1978 Fenway Park moment, when Boston was eliminated from the World Series. The second “Boston Massacre” happened in 2006.

There is no connection between the Boston Marathon incident and the production of the t-shirts. The garments were made long before the Bsoton Marathon bombings, but they did stay on the shelf after the event. Brian Strong, Nike spokesman said:

[Nike] took immediate action last week to remove this product from distribution. The shirts being referenced are older baseball shirts that were predominantly being sold through our Factory Store Outlets.

While Nike is recalling the t-shirts, competitor Adidas has been selling t-shirts reading “Boston Stands As One” on its website, with the proceeds going to the One Fund Boston relief effort.
