Boston bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was captured on Saturday evening by police following a lengthy door-to-door manhunt. The Mass. State Police released this video detailing how they caught the suspect under a tarpaulin in a boat in Watertown, Mass.
During the video, the camera changes to different modes of night and infrared vision to spot the suspect. An armoured vehicle can also be seen approaching the boat, using its robot arm to expose the suspect. Flashbangs can also be seen exploding as they are directed towards the boat. David Procopio of the Massachusetts State Police said:
We used a robot to pull the tarp off the boat. We were also watching him with a thermal imaging camera in our helicopter. He was weakened by blood loss — injured last night, most likely.
The video also shows that Dzhokhar was seriously wounded and seemed lathargic. Despite authorities believing he had explosives on him, he posed little threat as the heavily armed force had him under control.
Prior to fleeing, Dzhokhar reportedly spoke to a fellow student, Zach Bettencourt.
[Bettencourt]You hear about this kind of thing happening in Iraq and Afghanistan, but not here.
He was like, ‘Yeah, tragedies happen like this all the time and it’s sad.
