The UK Athletics chairperson has confirmed that Oscar Pistorius will not be welcome at the Anniversary games, confirming, “based on what I know at the moment, it would be a no if he rang this morning.”
This will no doubt come as a huge shock to murder-accused paralympian, Oscar Pistorius, who just recently made headlines for ‘feeling up women during a night out on the town with a tow-truck baron.’
This is what News24 had to say on the matter:
The three-day event to commemorate the first anniversary of the London Olympics will include a day of Paralympic sport, but UK Athletics chairperson Ed Warner said Pistorius would not be invited to take part.
“I don’t want to see the Sunday of the Anniversary Games turning into a media circus,” Warner told BBC radio. “It would over-shadow every other athlete that was there.
It’s not about innocent or guilty, it’s about how you handle an individual with a difficult moral situation hanging over them.
“Anything might change. He is in court before then, but based on what I know at the moment, it would be a no if he rang this morning.”
Pistorius, a six-time Paralympic gold-medallist, is currently on police bail after being accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his home in Pretoria in February.

Disgraced cyclist and fellow Nike-sponsored athlete, Lance Armstrong, was also very recently barred from a sporting event – in his a case swimming event. This makes sense, as Lance Armstrong has admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs during his cycling career and it is quite evident that cheating is universally frowned upon.
Now whilst Oscar Pistorius has not yet gone to trial and is allowed to compete and travel, the question might come up as to why he is being barred from this event.
The UK Athletics chairperson, above, mentioned “based on what I know at the moment, it would be a no if he rang this morning.”
Given that he knows as much as we do (the case still has to go to trial), he might be referring to the fact that Pistorius has indeed admitted to firing four bullets through a closed bathroom door at an ‘anonymous’ person.
