Sixty years after the first publication “Casino Royale”, we finally have a new African setting for a James Bond novel. The latest novel written by William Boyd is titled “Solo”, and will be set primarily on African soil.
Boyd told the London Book Fair:
The journey Bond goes on takes in three continents — with the main focus honing in on Africa,
It’s what happens to Bond in Africa that generates his urge to ‘go solo’ and take matters into his own hands in the USA.
In my novel, events conspire to make Bond go off on a self-appointed mission of his own, unannounced and without any authorisation — and he’s fully prepared to take the consequences of his audacity.
Boyd, a Ghanian author, revealed in February that the story will be set in 1969, with a 45 year-old Bond as the protagonist. This book is Boyd’s first foray into Bond novels, though he did feature Ian Fleming (the original Bond author) as a character in one of his previous novels, titled “Any Human Heart.”
The book will be released on 26 September.
