Liberace was one of the greatest performers of the late twentieth century. A maverick, a flamboyant piano performer and glitzy entertainer who no one really understood, but everyone loved to watch, Liberace lived an epic life, worthy of film.
Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Behind The Candelabra takes a retrospective look at the life of Liberace (played by Michael Douglas), his performances, and his relationship with young lover, Scott Thorson (played by Matt Damon).
Even if the personal history of this entertainment god doesn’t tempt you into watching the movie, the prospect of Michael Douglas in stage drag is hard to resist.
Behind The Candelabra premiers on HBO, Sunday 26 May.
