People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is an animal rights organization that claims to represent the best interest of animals, but is, apparently, not very good at keeping them alive. It has been reported that almost 2,000 animals pass through the organization’s door alive each year, and very few animals make it out alive. In 2011, 96% of the animals that entered PETA died on the premises, most of which were euthanized. The figure was confirmed by personnel who collect the bodies of animals – Pet Cremation Services stop by on a regular basis to pick up animal remains from the premises.
The animal mortality rate on their premises is so high that PETA installed a walk in freezer with a price tag of $9,370 to store the bodies. The fees of Pet Cremation Services are paid by donations to PETA.
Numbers show that in the last 11 years PETA has euthanized a reported 29,426 dogs, cats, rabbits and other domestic animals. That is 2,675 animals a year, a staggering seven animals a day are out down by the animal protection organization.
If you don’t believe the news, take a look at the pictures.
In 2012 they took in 733 dogs, and only 12 were adopted. They impounded 1,110 cats, seven of them were adopted. The animals that were not lucky enough to be adopted were killed.
Garbage bags found in a dumpster searched by police officers contained the dead bodies of animals that had been entrusted to PETA in order that homes might be found for them. The animals’ bodies were examined by a veterinarian, who said the animals were “healthy” and “adoptable.”
PETA receives an annual revenue of $35 million, but does not promote adoption in any way and does not schedule adoption hours, but is registered with the State of Virginia as a “humane society” or “animal shelter.”
The letter below outlines a site visit conducted by the Animal and Food Industry Services Office of Veterinary Services, stating that PETA did not operate as an animal shelter, and had only three rooms to contain the animals which were not sectioned, and reported that 90% of the 245 animals taken into custody over the course of the inspection were euthanizes in the first 24 hours.
The public has condemned PETA for their practises of killing healthy and adoptable animals. But those who spoke out have received lawyers letters.
