Shall I compare thee to a shyster douchebag? Compelling new research paints famous playwright, William Shakespeare as a shrude businessman, to put the matter mildly. Aberystwyth University academics sifted through historical archives uncovering fascinating details about the scribe, who was great with words, and better with thrift.
According to the research, Shakespeare was pursued by authorities for tax evasion, and in 1598 was prosecuted for hoarding grain when the product was in limited supply at the time, and hunger was rife. Apparently he also became a wealthy businessman.
Researcher Jayne Archer said the less savoury aspects of Shakespeare’s life are overlooked because people “cannot counternance the idea of a creative genuis also being motivated by self-interest.”
