Don’t watch this if you’re sensitive to graphic footage. On Sunday, during the Louisville versus Duke basketball game at the 2013 National Collegiate Athletic Association Torunament, Lousiville team player, Kevin Ware snapped his leg. Sophomore guard, Ware’s right leg snapped as he landed from a shot block attempt in the first half of the game.
Ware tried to block Duke’s player, Tyler Thornton but when he landed the players leg visibly split in two as his leg hit the floor.
Teammate, Chane Behanan collapsed to the ground after seeing Ware’s injuries saying:
The bone was literally out. I saw white, it was literally out.
Louisville coach, Rick Pitino was impressed by the kid’s guts.
The bone’s 6 inches out of his leg and all he’s yelling is, ‘Win the game, win the game.’ I’ve not seen that in my life… Pretty special young man.
After the game, Ware underwent emergency surgery due to the fact that his bone punctured his skin. The surgery has been succesful.
Ware recalls the event.
I jumped and my leg felt kind of funny. When Coach P tried to help me up, he gave me a funny kind of look. I’m looking at him and then I look down and I see my bone sticking out. It wasn’t a hurt feeling. I just went into shock. In the moment, you don’t know what’s wrong with you. You’re just looking, thinking, ‘How did this happen?’ I never watched the replay. I never want to.
Ware is in good spirits.
Hopefully I’ll be back in time to watch practice. It hurts but I’ll be fine. I’ll be fine.
