TOP 5 April Fool’s Stories In The Press [VIDEOS]

Yesterday, we were predictably treated to an array of April Fools Day jokes across the world. Most of them sucked, so we curated five that didn’t, for you.

It looks like the tech and media sectors are the front-runners when it comes to humour. Better luck next year, insurance industry.

Prank One:

First up and close to home, TimesLIVE announced that Julius Malema would be joining the Democratic Alliance (DA). An alleged DA press statement stated:

While we welcome his change of heart with regards to our party, we are still wary of the racialised and sexist language he has employed in the past.

But Malema wasn’t too please with the prank pulled by the publication.

The LookLocal.co.za website announced that Malema had joined the Zoo Lake Bowls Club, which is actually entirely plausible.

Prank Two:

Twitter announced the discontinuation of vowels, to help users to be “more efficient, and “dense” in their communication.” The social media site renamed itself, Twttr. If users did want to use vowels, a small fee of $5 per month would need to be paid.

Prank Three:

The third best prank for the day was YouTube’s announcment that it would be shutting down the popular video-sharing site. YouTube CEO, Salar Kamanger said:

We started YouTube in 2005 as a contest with a simple goal to find the best video in the world. We had no idea we’d get such a great response.

While claiming that YouTube was a competition from the beginning, the company also stated that all videos uploaded before midnight last night would be judged and that winners would be announced in 10 years.

Prank Four:

Google announced that they would be launching Google Nose BETA. The product promised “to offer the sharpest olfactory experience available.” Google Nose would supposedly, allow users to “search for smells.” Check out the video.

Prank Five:

The official White House YouTube channel released a “A Special Message From The President.” Well alomost. Watch the video below.
