Look, season six of Mad Men is just around the corner, which means that we have to start mixing our drinks again in order to more effectively channel the spirit of Donald Draper. But we’ve put up with the Old Fashioned now for five seasons and it’s getting, well, old fashioned.
So if you thought this list was about the classic mojito, or martini, then you thought wrong. In the spirit of a new season, we present a list of cocktails that you definitely haven’t, but definitely should try. Enjoy these while you watch Don’s marriage fall apart. It’ll numb the pain.
The BLT
You know the sandwich, but do you know the cocktail? This blended smoothie it is a cocktail made from all the ingredients of a BLT sammich, with a dash of Dutch courage. We’re talking bacon, lettuce and tomato, WITH vodka. It’s basically your new breakfast regimen. The BLT cocktail is served as a meaty mix of bacon-infused vodka, tomato water and ice cubes made from lettuce water in a glass rimmed with bacon-salt.
Wasabi Cocktail
And you thought this stuff was only good for shnarfing. The Absolut Vodka’s Wasabi Martini has a combination of 12 parts Absolut Vodka, three parts lemon juice, two parts simple syrup and one tsp prepared real wasabi paste. This combination of ingredients makes for a good palate cleanser, and is apparently quite the drink pairing for fish dishes.
Chocolate Truffle Martini
This combination of black alba truffle-infused vodka and chocolate liqueur, garnished with paper-thin truffle slices is makes us think of Megan and her dark hair. Unlike Megan, this comparatively cheap delight will set you back $120 (over a grand).
The Gogol
Trust Russians to put together two ingredients that you have probably never had separately, together. This Roger Sterling-esque combination of horseradish vodka and pickled quail eggs would go swimmingly with Rog’s favourite meal – Oysters Rockefeller.
Ham & Cheese Cocktail
This one’s for the fans of Harry.
Adam Seger glorified mixologist invented this meal drink after soaking high-quality Iberico ham in cognac for two weeks, then mixing it with honey, cinnamon and lime juice, topped by a Manchego cheese tuile.
Passion Pop Rocks Martini
We don’t know about you, but we personally can’t wait to see what happens when Sally starts drinking. And this cocktail may well be her gateway drug. This badboy is comprised of Absolut Raspberri, DeKuyper Strawberry Passion Pucker, Splash pineapple and a sprinkling of Pop Rocks candy.
