Lee Young Hee, Executive Vice President of Samsung’s mobile business confirmed during an interview in South Korea that Samsung will indeed be making a smart watch. According to Hee this is not in respsonse to rumours that Apple is working on a watch.
We’ve been preparing the watch product for so long. We are working very hard to get ready for it. We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them.
Hee made no comment regarding the release date of the watch, or any details about the specific features that the watch may have.
With the release of the Galaxy S line of smartphones, Samsung is making a bee line for top honours in the smartphone market. The Galaxy S3 outsold the iPhone 4S during the third quarter last year, before the release of the iPhone 5.
If the Apple rumors are true, Apple and Samsung will be going head-to-head in the emerging market of wearable technology.
In a survey conducted by BuyVia, 26% of the respondents said they were interested in buying the rumored iWatch, 38% said they were not interested and 36% said they were unsure. BuyVia CEO, Norman Fong said:
While consumers are seemingly divided about their desire to own the rumored Apple iWatch, it’s fascinating that the most desired features for the watch mirror popular iPhone capabilities.
It’s as though consumers are only interested in a watch that offers everything the smartphone does, only in a more convenient ‘package.’ What they seem to crave is a way to more easily access iPhone features everywhere they go.
Have a look at the other competitors.
