Early this week, a Reddit user posted pictures of a vault discovered by their friend in the house into which they had just moved. The mysterious vault was found in the basement of the New Zealand, and was sealed with concrete. The home was a known drug den prior to it changing hands. Since the posting of the picture, internet message boards have been salivating with anticipation. The news has constantly been appearing on the front page of Reddit.
The vault is surrounded by 25 cm of reinforced concrete on all sides.
Reddit user, Tof1911 identified the vault as a Sargent and Greenleaf dial 6330 and recommended opening it with either a stethoscope or a bore-a-scope.
With the safe receiving so much attention the original poster announced a special subreddit to discuss the safe and provide updates – /r/WhatsInThisThing, and subscribers have rocketed to 60 000 in just over two days.
But what could be in the safe? Apart from the obvious conclusion of “it’s drugs”, this particular comment is an indication of the quality of the theories offered, thus far:
An apocalypse bunker, and inside there’s some smelly hobo watching pre-recorded VCR tapes while eating cans of preserved tomatoes.
On Monday morning, the user who submitted the photograph announced he had contacted several safe experts in New Zealand in attempt to crack it. He also refused to just blow up the safe – a valid suggestion.
