The future is not looking that bright for Ju-Ju. Julius Malema has missed the deadline to file challenges to SARS’ application for the sequestration of his estate to cover the R16 million tax debt bill.
Court documents dated 14 March 2013 said Malema “failed to file an answering affidavit and the application is therefore set down on the unopposed-motion court roll.”
Tumi Mokwena, Malema’s lawyer refused to comment regarding the failure to meet the application deadline.
In January 2013, SARS pounced on Malema’s assets – his Sandton, Limpopo and Polokwane homes – as set out in a court order obtained in December by SARS, while rejecting the R4 million settlement Malema offered them.
A Eurogrand piano, seven piece dining room suite, two TV sets, his beloved fridge, DVD player, two bar fridges, a dressing table, a sound mixer, a seven seat cane garden set, and – for some reason – six plastic chairs, were among the 31 assets auctioned off.
Malema claimed his Sandton house was valued at R7,1 million according to court papers. But SARS reduced that figure to R3,6 million after confirmation that the property was bought for that price.
Malema also claimed he had net assets of R8,5 million, which were reduced in valuation to R1,4 million.
