This is what happens when you start hanging out at the playground, mom and dad. The kids find another playground.

According to CNET, and everyone you know, teenagers are leaving Facebook in droves. Why? Privacy.

Personally, we’re not all that surprised. No one wants to post pictures of themselves climbing a yacht mast in a bikini to a global audience if their parents are part of that global audience.

So where are teens flocking to, if they’re shuttering their Facebook accounts?

For tweens and teens, Instagram — and, more recently, SnapChat, an app for sending photos and videos that appear and then disappear — is the opposite of Facebook: simple, seemingly secret, and fun. Around schools, kids treat these apps like pot, enjoyed in low-lit corners, and all for the undeniable pleasure and temporary fulfillment of feeling cool

But that’s okay, right? After all, Facebook owns Instagram.

Wrong! Facebook may own Instagram, but they aren’t making a dime from the service, yet. Moroever, once parents catch wind of the migration, they may well follow the herds – at which point teens will find the next social network free from the prying eyes of parents.

While parents stalk the internet, the teen market is a zero-sum game for Zuckerberg.
