For over four years, the BBC searched the African continent to find and film unfamiliar wildlife, surprising behaviour and new landscapes for the BBC’s new Africa series.
The Africa series is however drawing to a close, with only one geographic still to be covered on BBC Knowledge, DSTV Channel 184.
Episode one was filmed in the Kalahari, with giraffes at battle and spiders cartwheeling down sand dunes. The crew caught sand-coloured bats crossing the Savannah skies in episode two, and episode three was filmed in the Congo where the BBC crew were also the first to film particular species of tropical butterfly in a rain forest, thanks to a discovery made on Google Earth.
Last night’s episode surprised viewers with never before seen footage from the Cape. The film crew pushed themselves to the limits – especially when one cameraman positioned himself on a whale carcass to capture the footage of it being feasted on by 30 Great White Sharks.
