Of all South African politicians, Helen Zille easily takes the crown for the most active and engaging Twitter handle.
Spawned in her years as the Mayor of Cape Town, Mayor Helen’s Twitter handle quickly made a name for itself as a place where problems were dealt swift death blows. Burst water main? No problem. Shortage of millionaire shortbread at Engen on Orange? Helen was all over that.
In a short space of time, @HelenZille became the go-to handle for tweeting just about any problem or curiosity in the city of Cape Town. And for a while, people may not have been entirely wrong in doing so.
But she’s not the Mayor anymore, people. She hasn’t been for a long time. She’s painting with broad strokes at provincial government level as the POWP (Premier of Western Province).
But that doesn’t stop us from tweeting her, or CCing her on out City tweets.
And with all this in mind, “CC @Helenzille” was born. It’s a great tumblog, and you should check it out.
