Oh boy. Oh boy, just breathe. A new armband uses the electrical activity in your muscles to let you wirelessly control digital devices.
The new Myo wristband runs on electromyography techniques. Electric pulses that surge throughout your body when you move your muscles are sensed by the Myo, which sends corresponding commands to linked devices.
Thalmic Labs co-founder Stephen Lake, said:
Our sensors on the surface of the skin amplify that activity by thousands of times and plug it into a processor in the band, which is running machine learning algorithms.
The Myo connects with computers, tablets, consols and so on via Bluetooth, enabling users to control presentations, browse the Internet, play video games and edit audio, among other tasks — entirely hands-free. Thalmic states that Myo will be supported by Windows and Mac OS, and will be available for integration into iOS and Android apps. Expect to see these gadgets around towards the end of 2013. Tron has never looked so possible.
