Students at the Illinois University of Chicago and inventor Victor Mateevisti investigated whether an “enhanced sense of one’s environment can be created with off-the-shelf sensors and hardware.” And according to them , yes, yes it can. The Spider Man suits allows the wearer to sense obstacles and other people without the use of their vision. Which is the best thing we’ve heard about since the jet pack.
The suit is made up of ultrasonic rangefinders which are placed at various attitudes and feed into a central processor. The central processor then sends a signal to a small mechanical arm that applies pressure to the body in the region where the object was detected. In other words if somebody were to come close to you from behind, you would be able to sense that person without seeing them because pressure would be applied to your back by the suit. The suit is able to detect the environment in several directions.
Mateevitsi told New Science:
That the goal isn’t necessarily a whole suit. A limited version of the system could be used by a bicyclist to be better aware of traffic behind him, for instance.
The suit is still in early development, so you’ll need to sit tight for a while before you attempt scoring Emma Stone.
