2013 seems to be the year of the come back. Bowie, Black Sabbath, Beck, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Depeche Mode, Queens of the Stone Age, and Tool are just a few of the anticipated come-back albums we can expect this year. There is no in between with come-back albums, they are either a huge disappointment (one which fans wish was never made as it taints their perception of what they thought of as a flawless career), or they reaffirm the class that you knew was there all along. Disappointing come-back albums which immediately spring to mind are The Verve’s “Forth”, Guns ‘n Roses’ “Chinese Democracy”, and Smashing Pumpkins “Oceania”.
Comeback albums can however take you by surprise in a positive way. They create a sense of anticipation if you did not know that a particular well loved artist or band would be releasing something new, or you did, but your expectations were low, or you simply did not care as that band or artist never really appealed to you – one example of this has to be Santana. Your average 5fm listener had no idea who the Latin superstar was, as his career bloomed before their time. His comeback album featured artists who were currently on the Billboard charts, such as Rob Thomas, Lauryn Hill, Eagle Eye Cherry and The Product G&B which gave it huge commercial appeal.
With the surge of come-back albums on their way, I decided to list my Top 10 Comeback albums. Let us know below, if we missed any out…
Pretty awesome list, right?
