One of the few things pretty much everyone in the world knows about Jamaica is that it produced Bob Marley, who sported the world’s most famous dreadlocks and also made some music you may be familiar with. Kagiso’s decided to get serious about his little Jamaican documentary and so he’s taken his crew to the Bob Marley Museum to talk history.
The earliest releases for this show called it “Bowfinger meets Borat” and that’s never been more evident in this episode. The crew Kagiso recruited all the way back in Episode 1 finally make a proper onscreen return in this one because Kagiso’s trying to get serious. He claims it’s got something to do with meeting Blake last week and finally understanding what it will take for him to beat DJ Fresh and host the Tropika Island of Treasure 5 but it looks like he’s taken it too far.
Kagiso’s egotism is in full swing in this one, with him not only deciding he’s the best thing to happen to Jamaica since reggae music but also taking off with his crew. This leads to pretty much everyone storming off even while he tries to keep promoting his new mantra of “One Love”.
This one’s another winner for Kagiso’s big ego and probably his most impressive performance of the show so far. After everything we’ve seen him do so far, I can buy him just going completely off the rails instead of learning anything useful from last week’s interview with Blake. We’ve got two episodes to go and in next week’s it looks like he’s going to give filming all on his own a try.
So it’s back to the drawing board. I imagine this next one’s going to feel a bit like Episode 1 all over again.
We’ll bring you a new episode of Kagiso’s Island of Treasure every week for the next 10 weeks in the lead-up to the launch of the Tropika Island of Treasure 5 on SABC 1. You can also check them out on Youtube over at Tropika’s channel.
