Alen Abrahams is a 31 year old car guard and father of two. He also happens to have the singing voice of a Welsh choir boy. After spotting Alen in a YouTube video uploaded by a tourist a year ago, Heart 104,9 presenter Aden Thomas tracked Alen down to get him on air.
When Alen heard that Heart104.9FM wanted to interview him he said,
I always knew this would happen, I just didn’t know when.
Alen appeared on the Morning Breakfast Show on Friday with Aden Thomas of Heart104,9FM and sang his Afrikaans renditions of pop songs, from Justin Beiber’s “Baby, Baby” to Sean Kingston’s “Beeautiful Girl”.
When asked about his music, he said
My music consists of what I see in my community. At the same time, I want to put a smile on your dial.
Over three days his videos received more than 15 000 views on YouTube.
When Alen sang on the radio station, the calls flooded in. One very prestigious caller was record producer Gabi le Roux who has worked with Mandoza and Locnville. Thomas confirmed,
We have two firm offers from record producers.
Go, Alen, go!
